Things to do over the Summer
With the school summer holidays in full swing, visit Knowsley Borough Councils what’s on guide for ideas and activities taking place across the borough. From events in the borough’s libraries (including the Summer Reading Challenge, crafts and treasure hunts), through to a programme of fun activities in Kirkby town centre, activities organised by Knowsley Youth Mutual at the OurPlace facility in Huyton, football sessions and park runs, there’s something for everyone!
Mums who breastfeed will gather in Knowsley on Friday 3 August for a special event during World Breastfeeding Week.
Open to all families the celebration will take place at 10:30am at Knowsley Safari as part of a local Big Latch On event to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding.
There will be free entry for children under three, while Foot Safari is £8.50 per person and Safari Drive (Including Foot Safari) is £10 per person.
Knowsley's Big Latch On promises to be a great event and it's a really good way to raise awareness of the facts about breastfeeding. There's lots of really good support for mums in Knowsley who choose to breastfeed from Knowsley Bosom Buddies our friendly breast feeding peer support service.

Feelgood Festival and Knowsley Flower Show

return to the borough this weekend at Court Hey Park in Huyton. The Feelgood Festival takes place on Saturday, 4 August from 1pm until 5pm and provides a wealth of information, advice and activities to boost your health and wellbeing. The Flower Show, now in its twentieth year, follows on Sunday, 5 August from 11am until 5pm and as well as the grand floral marquee, the event offers a range of family-friendly entertainment including a dog show, face painting, fair rides and much more. MAUREEN CLUNAN MEMORIAL AWARD 2018

In 2013, in memory of the late Councillor Maureen Clunan in recognition of her tireless work with the community, the Town Council established the Maureen Clunan Memorial Award. The recipients of the annual award are chosen by the members of the Town Council. To be eligible to receive the award the person nominated must be an active volunteer within the community providing a service that benefits residents of all areas of the township.
This years Maureen Clunan Award was presented to Mr Bernie Buxton. Bernie is very active within the community and is one of the founder members of the Liverpool Taxi Drivers Children In Care Outing Fund. Each year funding is raised to enable local taxi drivers to offer day trips for children in care. Bernie has worked tirelessly to raise funds and awareness and participates in the outings for the children for the past 35 years and is still going strong.
Members of the Town Council were delighted to nominate Bernie to receive the Maureen Clunan Award for 2018 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to this most worthy cause.

Merseyside Police and the High Sheriff’s Fund 2018/19
Merseyside Police and the High Sheriff’s Fund 2018/19 for grants of up to £2,500 for community groups to apply for projects to increase community safety, reduce crime and ASB.
The next closing date is Friday 27 July 2018 but due to a limited budget the fund may close earlier when sufficient applications are received.

Knowsley Better Together
Do you have an idea to work Better Together for the good of Knowsley?
…If so, we’d like to hear from you.
Knowsley Better Together is a new initiative that is working to bring people and organisations closer together to achieve more for Knowsley and its residents.
This includes working with partners, organisations and the community to improve educational outcomes, health and wellbeing, high-quality adult social care and improving access to jobs and a good choice of housing. All the projects being delivered as part of Knowsley Better Together recognise that more positive benefits can be achieved by working together and pooling resources and skills.
Recently, 30 community and social projects have received a financial boost thanks to Knowsley Better Together which are helping to deliver a range of projects across the
borough including support for residents with dementia and their carers, homework and IT clubs through to supporting young people explore their health and wellbeing through the development and design of a comic.
The next funding window will open on 19 March and bids are invited from community groups in Knowsley. Bids of up to £10,000 are invited and in particular where a funding allocation of £2,000-£3,000 could really make a difference and potentially get a project off the ground. The bids must support at least one of the council’s priorities:-
- Contribution to education (attendance, attainment, aspiration)
- Contribution to the health and wellbeing of Knowsley residents (mental health, obesity and domestic abuse)
- High quality, sustainable adult social care (dementia, reducing social isolation and promoting independence including employment and volunteering opportunities for people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities)
- Accelerating business growth, jobs and housing including interventions that reduce demand on council services
Bids are invited from a constituted community group (with a bank account in the organisation’s name), charity, social enterprise or third sector organisation.

The objective of the company is to promote and deliver dance, fitness and wellbeing activities of the highest quality to people of all ages and abilities in Knowsley and beyond. We strive to make all of our activities affordable, accessible and enjoyable to encourage as many people as possible to get involved and join us to improve health & wellbeing.
We are able to provide programmes of activities tailor made to suit the needs of every group regardless of age or ability. Options include: Yoga, Pilates, Low impact exercise, Chair Based exercise, Line Dancing, Zumba and much more! Life After Bereavement
12 week programme of talks, activities and social events offering practical help, including introductions to possible new hobbies, interests and the chance to talk.
The group meets at Knowsley Carers Centre, Bewley Drive, Kirkby for a 12- week programme for one afternoon a week from 1.30pm until 3.00pm
