Today Is World Menopause Day

World Menopause Day is held every year on 18 October.

This year's theme is "Testosterone for Women at Midlife".

Testosterone can help to alleviate some health-related issues of menopause.

The menopause is a natural part of ageing in women that usually occurs between the ages of 45-55 years as a woman's oestrogen levels decline. In the UK, the average age for a woman to reach the menopause is 51, but around one in 100 women experience the menopause before the age of 40.

There are many symptoms of the menopause which can include hot flushes, night sweats, difficulty sleeping, low mood and problems with memory or concentration.

It is worth seeing your GP if you have menopausal symptoms that are troubling you or if you're experiencing the symptoms of the menopause before 45 years of age.

There are a number of treatments for the symptoms which your GP can discuss with you and they include lifestyle changes, hormone replacement therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.

Further information about the Menopause is available on the NHS website and you can read more about World Menopause Day on the Meno Martha website.

Highway Improvement Works

Woolfall Heath Avenue

In reference to the above road it should be noted that highway improvement works are due to commence on Monday 21 October until Friday 22 November.

The works will include the construction of a shared use footway/cycleway on Woolfall Heath Avenue between Seth Powell Way and Endmoor Road, as well as improvements to the existing signalised crossing facilities on Woolfall Heath Avenue to connect Woolfall Heath Meadows to the new cycleway.

At Endmoor Road cyclists will be directed onto the carriageway as this road has a relatively low volume of traffic using it, the cycle route will then connect to existing cycling facilities on Liverpool Road.

To facilitate the works temporary traffic signals will be used throughout the duration of the project, additionally from Thursday 24 October to Friday 22 November Woolfall Heath Avenue from its junction with Endmoor Road to Seth Powell Way will be subject to a one way closure where traffic will only be permitted to travel eastbound (towards Seth Powell Way)

For your information please click  below  plans showing the extents of the works.

Everyone has a story to tell and in 2022 - Knowsley’s ‘Borough of Culture’ year – it’s time to tell ours.

The ‘Borough of Culture’ title is awarded annually by the city region’s Combined Authority to one of its six local authorities and in 2022 Knowsley will hold the title.

As part of our Borough of Culture year, each town and village will have the opportunity tell their story – an opportunity to shine the light on the history, heritage, dreams and ambitions that make our towns and villages unique, and then share these stories throughout 2022 in a way that is different, imaginative, creative and celebratory.

We want to give as many individuals, communities and organisations as possible the opportunity to be part of Knowsley’s Borough of Culture year and shape the story of their own town or village.  So, throughout this autumn, Knowsley’s Culture Team invite you to come along to Cultural Conversations in order to uncover the stories of people, places and magic that will inspire a programme of events, exhibitions, activities and performances to mark the milestone year.

We’d love you to join us and share your thoughts, hopes and ideas to shape this exciting project. You can book on to your local event using the links below.

Annual Event Invite

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY 10TH OCTOBER

This year’s campaign casts a particular spotlight on suicide prevention.  Here in Knowsley, we will be doing our bit to promote the day by signposting staff and residents to useful online resources and where to go for help or advice.  This of course includes our workplace Mental Health Champions.  We are also supporting the first ever national NHS campaign to target mental health – Every Mind Matters – and sharing a link to this film and others like “Ask Twice”

We know that the number of suicide has risen. We should be concerned – especially in the rise for young people and men. We don’t know the full reasons. One factor could be the change in law that reduces the burden of proof needed to register a death as a suicide (rather than accidental death). This may increase the numbers recorded but will give us a more accurate picture overall.

The reasons behind suicide are complex. Often it is when many factors come together that people are at the greatest risk.

The evidence does point to financial uncertainty, poverty, unemployment, traumatic life events and persistent inequality as all having a significant influence, along with wider factors including ill-health, loneliness and discrimination.
