Beating Of The Bounds --- It's A Stroll in The Park (Sometimes)!
Every year, the Town Council undertakes a Beating of the Bounds. On a date decided by the Mayor, this annual event involves walking on a number of public footpaths in the township in order to ensure that they are passable for our residents.
Yesterday, on Sunday 18 August 2013, was the date chosen by the Town Mayor, Cllr. John Donnelly for this year's Beating of the Bounds. As a result, a party of 30 intrepid pioneers led by four Mayors of local councils (i.e. Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Knowsley Town Council, Prescot Town Council and Whiston Town Council) explored some of the public paths in Knowsley Village.
The route took in Flukers Brook Lane, a path alongside the M57 (an excellent footpath and congratulations to the agency that has constructed and maintained this!), back under the M57, through Homer Wood (where one can find possibly the greenest pond in Knowsley) and Pinfold Wood (where the brambles are particularly vicious!).
The walk, known as the "Knowsley Farmland Loop" was about 3.5 miles and took about 2 hours. The good news is that everybody enjoyed themselves and that all the paths are still there --- although some are more accessible than others! The weather was kind and nobody got lost (I think!).
