Knowsley Community College launches new dental course
Knowsley Community College has launched an exciting new Dental Nursing course in response to the growing demand of industry professionals.
The level 3 Advanced Diploma in Dental Nursing will help students take their first steps towards a career in the dental industry. The qualification recognised by the General Dental Council, will allow students to work with industry specialists focusing on direct, chair side work and providing support during a range of dental treatments to gain a strong understanding of dental equipment, instruments and materials.
The dental industry is an increasingly competitive and expanding profession and in the UK alone is worth around £9 billion. Dental nurses assist dentists with all aspects of patient care, from sterilising instruments and recording patient information to passing instruments and participating during advanced, specialist treatment.
Clare Webster, head of curriculum, said: “Dental nursing has become an increasingly popular career choice over the past few years and this new course is an excellent opportunity for those who are looking to launch a career in dentistry”.
The knowledge and theory behind dentistry will be provided once a week within the classroom at Knowsley Community College. In addition to this, students will gain valuable work experience within a local dental practice four days a week.
Students who successfully complete the course will be able to register with the General Dental Council (GDC) and be open to a range of work options and settings including careers in general dental practices, hospitals, community dental services and universities.
