We are thrilled to announce that the Friends of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum have been awarded funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to run a new series of workshops.

In our Knowsley Urban Sketchers sessions, we invite people to come along to come to different locations across the borough and capture them on paper, with a professional artist leading the group.

We aim to connect people to where they live, work and travel to/from. Using local heritage and culture to inspire the sessions, whilst raising the artistic, storytelling and educational value of on-location storytelling.

We will be exploring a different range of outdoor venues including heritage sites, green spaces, local businesses, farmland and even the local pub!

Each session will feature a short talk that brings the heritage of the location alive. We haven't yet confirmed where the sessions will take place, so if you have a favourite spot in Knowsley, please let us know.

The session will run 10am - 3pm in two sections: drawing on location in the morning and then breaking for lunch; coming together for the ‘throwdown’ and group critique/discussion in the afternoon.

The first of our exciting workshops will take place and be led by the following artists:

Tuesday 23 August: Julia Midgley
Wednesday 24 August: Julia Midgley
Wednesday 31 August: Anthony Ratcliffe
Thursday 1 September: Anthony Ratcliffe
Thursday 15 September: Tony O’Connell
Thursday 13 October: Tony O’Connell

If you would like to attend the Knowsley Urban Sketchers session, please email tina.ball@knowsley.gov.uk with your details so that we can add you to the register and contact you nearer the time with more information and suggestions of routes/sites which may be of interest.

These Knowsley Urban Sketchers sessions were made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to provide these incredible artist-led classes.
