Foster carers play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of the children they care for.
There are still many myths surrounding fostering – specifically who is considered to be a suitable foster carer. It can often be of the biggest barriers when trying to recruit new people – your sexuality or relationship status isn’t a barrier to applying.
Councillor Margaret Harvey, Cabinet Member of Children Services said: “Fostering has long been open to LGBT+ families, and whilst we are delighted that so many have already come forward to foster here in Knowsley, they still represent a moderately small proportion of the enquiries we receive each year. Therefore, we are keen to take the opportunity of our local Pride celebration to share the message that fostering in Knowsley is very much open to everyone. Your age, gender, sexual orientation or marital status are not important – it’s what you can offer a child that matters. ”
