Even before the pandemic men were often experiencing mental health problems such as depression and anxiety, with an estimated one in eight men suffering from such conditions. However, men are less likely to access support or talk to others about their mental health and wellbeing until in crisis or too late.
In Cheshire and Merseyside 8 out of every 10 suicides are male, with middle-aged men from lower socio-economic backgrounds more vulnerable to death by suicide.
The funding is for projects which support the mental health and wellbeing of men, particularly middle-aged men, to help prevent worsening mental health and potential suicide.
The money for the grants is coming from NHS England grant funding via the Cheshire & Merseyside Suicide Prevention Implementation Group and Knowsley Council.
This grants programme was originally launched in February 2020 and was subsequently paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Applicants who submitted applications in 2020 are encouraged to review and resubmit a new application.
How do I apply?
Interested groups can access further details about the funding and download the application form from the council’s website.
The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Friday 23 July 2021.
Please allow up to four weeks from the deadline date for your application to be assessed.
Grants can not be awarded for activities which have already taken place or are due to start before your application has been awarded funding.
Successful projects should be ready to start their proposed activities within 4 to 8 weeks of funding being released.
