Proposal To Reduce Knowsley's Wards And Councillors
A consultation is currently being held to reduce the number of Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council's councillors and electoral wards.
A plan has been forwarded to reduce the number of wards in the borough from 21 to 15 and cut the number of elected members from 63 to 45.
The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has launched the consultation. The plans can be viewed on LGBCE's website and comments can be left online until Monday 3 November 2014.
The proposals are intended to achieve the following:
- Generate financial savings
- Ensure that each councillor represents approximately the same number of voters
- Reflect the interests and identities of local communities
- Promote effective local government.
If taken forward, the changes would come into effect from the 2016 local elections, which is the earliest date possible.
