Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November. This date is the Sunday nearest to 11 November ("Armistice Day"), the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11.00 a.m. in 1918.

Remembrance Sunday is held to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.

A number of civic acts of Rememberance are being held across the borough to remember those who have given their lives in the service of their country. Representatives from the Town Council will be attending services at St. Mary's Church in Knowsley Village and St. Jude's Church in Stockbridge Village.

Next year will be the 100th anniversary of the First World War commencement.
